A family bakery has been declared the winning independent shop of 2014 in MP Jesse Norman’s Discover Ross competition.
The Golden Crust on Broad Street in Ross on Wye were praised for their top-quality cakes and breads and consistently friendly service. Jesse dropped in to The Golden Crust to congratulate owners Richard and Lorraine Pearce and their staff in person.
Speaking after his visit, Jesse commented “The Golden Crust is an outstanding example of the independent shops that form the backbone of the local economy, and help to make Herefordshire special. I would encourage everyone to drop by all the winning shops and congratulate them on their achievement.”
In second place were Parkers on Gloucester Road. Customers were impressed by the range of DIY and homeware goods on offer as well as the competitive prices and quality of service.
Third place went to Woods of Whitchurch. As one local resident said of the shop-turned-community hub, Woods is “a phenomenal village shop and a first rate example of entrepreneurial spirit”.
In the second round of the Discover Ross competition, Jesse is asking people to nominate their favourite place to eat in HR9. There will be a prize for the best nomination in this category, as well as a special presentation for all the winners at the May Fayre in Ross on 25 May.
