Local MP Jesse Norman was today named Chair of the Culture, Media and Sport Committee.
Jesse has long been involved in culture, the arts and sport, and will bring considerable outside experience to the committee. He is a director of the Hay Festival and Patron of the Music Pool, a season ticket holder at Hereford FC and plays his trumpet in several Herefordshire bands.
Commenting on the result, Jesse said “I am absolutely delighted to have been elected as Chair of the Committee and can’t wait to get to work.
“Select committees have an increasingly important role to play in holding government departments and other public bodies to account, as well as highlighting important national issues.
“The Culture, Media and Sport committee covers areas of great importance to Herefordshire, including broadband roll-out, mobile telephone services, regional funding for the arts and regulation of football and other sports.
“With luck this new role will allow me to continue to put Herefordshire on the political map.”
