Jesse Norman had the honour of officially opening Hereford’s very own radiotherapy unit at the County Hospital last week.
The £7.7m unit, which is managed and staffed by Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, is already receiving patients from Herefordshire and beyond. It marks the culmination of a 9 year campaign by Allan and Angela Lloyd and others to reduce the "misery miles" endured by local people forced to travel to Cheltenham for cancer treatment.
Speaking at the grand opening, Mr Norman said: “This fantastic unit will ease the burden for thousands of cancer patients and their families in Herefordshire. It is a privilege to open it.
"Local people should be very proud of what they have helped to achieve – this is a miracle of campaigning and public service.”
