Jesse pushes Hereford Parkway Station and better rail links in transport consultation

Local MP Jesse Norman has renewed his call for better rail links and a new Hereford Parkway Station at Rotherwas.

Jesse was responding the Department for Transport’s consultation on the future of the Great Western Network, which covers southwest England, parts of south Wales and the direct service from Hereford to London. The majority of the network is currently operated by First Great Western. The Department for Transport were seeking views on the specification of the service from September 2015.

In his response, Jesse asked the DfT to support a Hereford Parkway station at Rotherwas, in order to complement and service the Hereford Enterprise Zone.

He also stressed the need for the DfT to make communication and cooperation between Train Operating Companies a priority, and highlighted the need for absolute clarity in the consultation about the importance of upgrading services to Hereford.

Commenting on his response, Jesse said: “At a time of significant new public spending on infrastructure, it is vital that our train services are improved. New developments in Herefordshire including the Enterprise Zone and the New University will only increase demand, and our railway links must not hold us back.”

Jesse’s full response to the consultation is available here.
