Massive news for Herefordshire!

Local MP Jesse Norman today warmly welcomed the news that the Government is backing the project to build a new university in Herefordshire.

The Spending Review delivered by the Chancellor today committed to providing "dedicated support" for a new university focused on engineering in Hereford.  This will allow the project to secure launch funding in 2016, subject to a business case.

In a letter to Jesse, the Chancellor wrote that he hopes “this will allow the institution to start teaching the engineering students of the future that our country needs before the end of the Parliament.”

Commenting, Jesse said “This is massive news, and a real boost for the whole of Herefordshire.

"It has long been my dream for us to have a university of our own, and I have campaigned to make this happen since 2009.   Along with the project team leaders I have been vigorously making the case over the past year to the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills, and also directly to the Chancellor.

"I’m delighted that the Government has now committed to supporting the project. This has the potential to be the most transformative project for our county since the construction of Hereford Cathedral.
