Pots and Pieces acclaimed as favourite place to eat in HR9

A tea shop that doubles as a gift shop has won Jesse Norman MP’s 2014 Discover Ross award for favourite eatery in HR9.

Pots and Pieces, owned and run by David and Sara Bruce, was praised for its warm welcomes, friendly atmosphere, cream teas and lemon drizzle cake. One nomination described it as “a hive of sociability in the High Street”. The cafe, which sells a range of gifts and jewellery alongside drinks and tasty treats was also hailed for its “super-friendly staff”.

Second place in Discover Ross was won by local tandoori and balti house Cafe Zam Zam. Customers raved about the tandoori cooking, especially the nan breads. Loyal Cafe Zam Zam fans said they regularly traveled from Hereford, the Forest and even South Wales to enjoy the cooking on offer on the High Street in Ross on Wye.

Third place was won by Mandy Moos on Cantilupe Road. Customers spoke highly of owner Mandy Price’s cooking and hosting skills. As one nomination put it “she makes you feel like a friend rather than a customer”.

Speaking after a visit to Pots and Pieces, Jesse Norman said:
“The support for this round of my competition was the greatest yet. My staff and I were overwhelmed with the support for all the great places to eat in Ross on Wye and the HR9 area.

“A number of other eateries deserve a mention too, and in particular Glewstone Court, Wilton Court Restaurant with rooms, Caffe Eleganza and Audrey’s Fish Bar. Great places to eat are just another reason to visit Ross and I hope that this competition has helped to inspire more visitors to come!”

Nominations for the final round – Ross and HR9 Pub of 2014 - of Jesse’s Discover Ross competition close on Monday 12th May. Anyone can nominate, and there is a prize for the best nominations as well. Nominations can be made for any pub in the HR9 postcode area.
