Herefordshire MP Jesse Norman was put to work by staff at Ross-on-Wye’s Golden Crust bakery last week.
The MP, who can more usually be found grilling Treasury ministers and HMRC as part of his work on the Treasury Select Committee, spent the morning baking at the independent shop on Broad Street.
Jesse was delighted to visit The Golden Crust at the request of its owners Richard and Lorraine Pearce, and found himself making bread, iced buns and lardy cakes amongst other tasty delights, as well as working on the till and serving customers in the shop.
The Golden Crust were voted favourite shop of 2014 in Jesse's Discover Ross competition and are a firm favourite amongst locals and visitors to Ross. They also supply a number of other independent businesses in the area, such as Truffles Deli on the High Street.
Speaking after his visit, Jesse said: “I was thrilled to be able to spend the morning at The Golden Crust. They are an outstanding family business in Ross, and Richard and Lorraine and their staff Mike, Dom, Jane and Sophie were so welcoming.
“I learned a lot about their business--and it was a great opportunity to brush upon my baking skills too!”
