Local MP and Roads Minister Jesse Norman said today he was "delighted" at the news that Stagecoach West will launch a new under-19 day-rider ticket for Hereford and the Forest of Dean.
Jesse has long campaigned for better public transport in South Herefordshire, especially for young people and those on limited budgets or in isolated rural areas.
The decision to introduce the new ticket follows discussions between Jesse and the company, in which Stagecoach West identified the opportunity to offer cheaper travel to young people in the area.
The change will be introduced from 3rd September, when those aged 18 and under will be able to enjoy unlimited travel on local Stagecoach West services in the Hereford or Forest of Dean zones for just £4 a day, from 09:30 am onwards on weekdays and all day on weekends.
Commenting on the announcement, Jesse said "This is very good news for young people in South Herefordshire. I am delighted that Stagecoach West have responded positively to my calls for lower day fares for young people.
"We need to have more young people using local bus services! I look forward to working with Stagecoach West in future on other ways to help this happen."
